The major collections of the Shih-Hsin University Library focus on the fields of Humanities, Sociology, Journalism, Communications, Information, Management and related technologies. The University Library Director is responsible for the library’s overall management and development. The Library and Information Development Committee was established to supervise and support the Library’s budget allocation and overall management strategy.
The Library holds more than 530,000 volumes of books, about 30,000 microfilm materials, more than 200 databases, and 26,950 audio-visual materials. In 1998, The Center for World Chinese Literary Resources was initiated, supported by the National Science Council in 1999. The Center has constructed the Overseas Chinese Literary (OCL) Database, and the OCL Website on the Internet. The OCL Program obtained popularity and credit.
As an extension of the Library’s services to its community, including faculty members, students, staff members, alumni and neighbors, the Library is reaching out for good relationships with other libraries and organizations. The Library also participates in the regional library consortium, Inter-Library Loans (ILL) and resource sharing services. The Library is dedicated to expanding its collection in order to support the academic development of the University by building on-line databases and e-learning systems. The Library will devote itself to the search for excellence in digitized resources and diversified information services in order to support the University’s academic requirements.
